There are many things in life that will catch your eye, but only a few will catch your heart... pursue those. -unknown

You can walk into just about any pet shop and find iguanas for sale at a very cheap price. Most of those pet shops will tell you how easy and inexpensive it is to own one just so they can make that sale. They may also tell you to feed them is some lettuce, some crickets and maybe some dog or cat food. What people need to know and understand is that this is far from the truth.

The truth is that majority of baby iguanas will die before they become an adult and the ones that do make it to adulthood, many of them will not live over the age of 10 years old. The reason behind this,........ they do not get the proper care needed to live a long health life. Now many people are saying "well 10 years is a long time", but that is only about half of an iguanas life span.

Iguanas die all the time from preventable situations, sicknesses, and diseases. Pet stores, iguana owners, future iguana owners, and even some veterinarians need to educate themselves to stop all this from happening.

Many times the owner will give the iguana up for one reason or another (they didn't realize the cost, didn't know how big they get, can't handle them because they are aggressive or untamed, they have seriously bitten someone). The end result is that the either that the iguana bounces from home to home, is put to sleep, or in worse cases, the owner has seriously injured the iguana sometimes to the point of death.

An iguana is an exotic animal that has very special needs. Iguanas didn't ask to be put in a cage and made to be someone's pet, people decided to do this, so in return it is our responsibility to learn all we can about them and give the best possible care that we can. This is why I decided to create this web site, to help other people understand the proper way to care for green iguanas. You will find information on feeding, caging, health, and much more.

Iguanas are not for kids. There is a lot that one must do to care for an iguana and its not cheap or easy. I strongly suggest that anyone thinking of getting an iguana or that may all ready have one, to read and research as much information as you can. There are many good books and web sites out there. Be aware though that there is still outdated and incorrect information out there; in pet stores, stores, books, web sites, and even some veterinarians.

I designed this site so that you can go through it page by page in order. At the bottom of each page is a link that will bring you to the next section. For those of you who are more experienced with iguana care and are just looking for particular information, you can use the links on the side of the page to get you to where you need to go. I hope you find this site helpful and enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed making it. So to the first section, Getting Started.
